The part about the murders

Today we had a blood drive at the office. It was held in one of those
mobile donation buses and afterward I was held in the front of the bus
for 15 minutes in case I fainted or something.

The driver asked me I was reading and I showed him my
still-nice-but-beginning-to-show-wear copy of 2666.

"What's it about?"

"It's about Mexico...and a bunch of people who end up there."

"Mexico!" he said. "We don't want to go _there_ anymore."

I couldn't have summed it up better.

The further I get into 26666, the more it becomes "The part about where I don't talk about what this book is about because A, it's depressing, and B, it's gruesome." Although I did come up with a great idea for a screen treatment for it. Robert Rodriguez, call your agent.
