"That was embarrassing. And bound to show up in someone's novel about
5 years from now."
--a Community Bookstore rep about the mic snafu at its 40th
anniversary reading. It's cool, guys! Only a Manhattanite, judging by
the chatter around me, would think a wee technical difficulty worthy
of mention. We're good here.

I thought that it was a very cool event, but that the mic feedback was caused by people having their cellphones on. If they had only required people to turn their phones off, everything would have been solid.
Other thoughts: Paul Auster is very impressive in that sort of setting - I felt as if he had the best presence/voice
Nicole Krauss is absolutely adorable. I just wanted to give her a hug.
JSF is very short and may be distantly related to Eef Barzelay
The woman who read after Foer but and before Krauss was the least interesting reader on the panel. No wonder everybody left as soon as she finished.
I think Nicole Krauss put the most thought into her talk about the bookstore, and JSF about the audience. (Maybe it was just the pulpit that made him look so short? I don't think he's actually that short. It was a setting to dwarf for sure.)
Not sure what Siri Hustvedt was thinking either. Though in retrospect it probably made the organization easier to get 2 married writer couples to present in the same bill.
