Disney's A Christmas Carol: Bah, Humbug

I think I saw a promotion for this back at BookExpo America, but I must have blocked it out. What do you get when you cross Charles Dickens, Robert Zemeckis' dead-eyed CGI and Jim Carrey? A lot of Sims shouting "Nooooooo!" Even voice talent like Gary Oldman and Bob Hoskins cannot make this okay.

For future reference, this blog only recognizes one true adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL:

"True, there was something about mankind we loved!"
"I think it was their money!"

This is as good a place as any to mention that the little "mankind was my business" speech Marley makes is one of my favorite things ever.

I'm SO done with movie adaptations of the story, though. If it were up to me I would allow 1) the Muppet movie, 2) the Patrick Stewart audiobook, and 3) stage productions where desired, and leave it at that.

Stage productions is a good thing to bring up. Unless you live on a ranch in rural North Dakota, you can probably find a good adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" within driving distance this time of year. It would be cheaper to take your family to the multiplex but they wouldn't get as much out of it.

I didn't know about the Patrick Stewart audiobook. Hee.

I LOVE the Muppet Christmas Carol!

When Patrick Stewart sings "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" out of tune at the end of the audiobook, I always wonder whether Stewart is just choosing to be out of tune because Scrooge would be.

Waldorf and Statler are the best. They were my favorite characters on the Muppets, even as a little kid.

Unrelated, but they remind me and everybody else we know of my dad and his friend Anthony. Parties were a lot of fun when I was growing up.

The funny thing is, probably ten people over the years have come up with that observation over the years. I'm proud to have thought of it first. :-)
