The MTA Menace strikes again

Another day, another book dropped onto an innocent subway passenger -- and I was sitting down this time! It was during rush hour this morning when the much worn Library of America edition I was holding slipped from my hands and tapped the foot of a bike messenger standing at the end of the car with his bike. The messenger, who already looked cranky, gave an injured sniff after my "sorry," but in my defense, I wouldn't have been able to hit him if he had been using his bike in the intended manner. The book in question was not hurt.
