Sondre Lerche Just Read JULIET, NAKED

The Norwegian singer also suggested novelist/screenwriter/director Peter Hedges to direct, not surprising given that they worked together on "Dan in Real Life." (If you've seen the movie, you can see Sondre playing with his band over the end credits.)

I like Ricky Gervais in everything, but who will play Tucker?

Peter Hedges also adapted Hornby's "About A Boy" for the screen.

Those would be two great casting choices, by the way. Tucker would be more difficult to cast, because you have to find somebody who can convincingly play a character who used to be cool, but has become a regular guy in recent years. He's too old for the role now, but a Lost In Translation-era Bill Murray might have worked out really well. I can also see Josh Brolin, Josh Hamilton and Josh Lucas would each bring something interesting to the role.

Also, totally unrelated, but I have been reading Peter Hedge's first novel, What's Eating Gilbert Grape? for the past couple of days, and it is very good.

A+ for the Josh Hamilton suggestion. He'd have to be roughed up a little, but he doesn't make enough movies for my taste.

I read WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE after a lot of the books that borrowed from it, which is probably it didn't impress me that much at the time. AN OCEAN IN IOWA was better.

Hamilton would be my first pick. I think that Brolin would be more likely. Cusack wouldn't be a good fit, but it probably more likely than Hamilton because of the obvious Hornby connection.

Josh Lucas only because he's the right age for it and because he is also named Josh.

I just realized I've been confusing Josh Lucas and Josh Charles for years. Josh Charles would be completely wrong for the part but is otherwise underrated.

As long as they don't cast Russell Brand. Just because he was funny as a dissolute rocker in small doses doesn't mean he'd be able to pull this off.
