I think a variety of genres should be represented in TotT. Some fiction, some memoirs (or is that just more fiction?), some history, some politics, some science, some gender studies.
Also, the very coolest kids get books out of the library. I guess I'd prefer hearing about recent-ish books, but odds are, I haven't already read the books you're reviewing anyway, so I guess it doesn't make that much of a difference.
Ooh, or you could go "Oprah's Book Club" style and read a classic and explain it to me. I never did figure out what was going on in THE TURN OF THE SCREW.
