A 20-something woman with brown hair reading I HOPE THEY SERVE BEER IN HELL, on the R train. At the end of a chapter she used her book as a plate to feed her pet unicorn! Just kidding, it was a pig with wings.
This would be nothing compared to a GOING ROGUE sighting but that hasn't happened yet. Either the NYC members of its intended audience don't take the subways I do, or they read it months ago in one sitting as if it were the third Hunger Games book.
Seen anyone reading something unusual lately?

That is unusual. One of my coworkers - also a 20-something woman with brown hair - read Tucker Max's book a couple of months ago, as a sort of 'opposition research' project to find out how boys, or at least a certain type of boy, thinks. It was recommended to her by her boyfriend. Her reaction to it was a combination of horror and its-so-bad-its-good irony.
As for Going Rogue, I don't believe anybody actually buys a book like that to read it. (The same is true of the biography of Jeb Bush you saw a couple of weeks ago.) I think, if you buy a book like that, you've already made up your mind about the author and want to have it to remind yourself of her, or prove to yourself or to other people that you're a real supporter and put your money where your mouth is. As fascinating as I find Sarah Palin, the applicably parts of Game Change are really all that I really have a desire to read about her.
Her boyfriend recommended it to her? Well, I'm sure she handled that conversation more diplomatically than I would have. I read a few pieces on his site once and that was enough. Seems like a great path to misandry.
I really want to read GAME CHANGE but I'm about 800th in line for it at the library right now. I'm hoping it shows up before the midterm elections.
