Breaking: Mario Vargas Llosa wins Nobel Prize for Literature

Dudes With Better Odds club. Hmmm... I for one don't really like
Vargas Llosa. What are your feelings?

The literature prize is always the nadir of Nobel week for me, because I've never heard of the literature prizewinner. As with the Booker prize nominees announcement, I feel very ashamed.

Jo, I echo both those sentiments.

Elizabeth, think of them as an opportunity for you to get to know them! I hadn't ever heard of last year's, so I know the feeling -- but that's part of what the committee does. Look at the science awards, we're often aware of the development but so rarely of the creator(s).
